Hi,
I forwarded your response to Paul, and here is his assessment of the
problem. You can monitor the traffic using the fiddler tool
(http://www.fiddlertool.com)

Subject: RE: MSDN Help and Proxy Server
One of the folks (MartinDolphin) in the thread you referenced had a similar
problem after applying the workaround, except the status was 407 Method not
allowed. I assume that both that and mfr's problem are due to proxy
misconfiguration or overzealousness. I don't see how such results could be
coming from MSDN's servers.
The w3.org's description of this status does suggest an avenue for further
exploration:
403 Forbidden
The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it.
Authorization will not help and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated. If the
request method was not HEAD and the server wishes to make public why the
request has not been fulfilled, it SHOULD describe the reason for the
refusal in the entity. If the server does not wish to make this information
available to the client, the status code 404 (Not Found) can be used
instead.
Perhaps if the customer were to log the HTTP traffic, as explanation of the
failure would be visible.
Thanks,
Paul
Post by mfrThank you for the reply. I've modified the config file (as per the link) but
now have a different problem. I am now getting "the request failed with http
status 403: Forbidden (the server denies the specified URL. Contact the
server administrator."
Regards,
Dave.
Post by Saurabh Jain [MSFT]We are sorry for the inconvenience. This is a known issue. We have posted a

Post by mfrI can only access the local help files from either VS2005 or the MSDN
installation. The online help displays the following error message
"The request failed with http status 407. Authentication required.
(The
ISA
Server requires authorisation to fullfill the request. Access to the web
proxy service is denied."
I have no problems access the internet using Internet Explorer, but is seems
that the MSDN library does not authenticate with the proxy server correctly.
Is there a way to fix this?
Regards,
Dave.
