I have installed Visual Studio 2005 standard edition. Every thing works ok
except for the documentation item. When I choose the documentation item from
the start menu I get a page that has links for "How to install help for
Visual Studio" and "Visual Studio 2005 Combined Help Collection". When I
click the first link it says to put the install CD in and choose to install
product documentation but there is no such option on the install CD. When I
click the second link there is a line at the bottom of the page like
this...."Collections available for inclusion in VSCC:" but there is nothing
there and the update VSCC button is disabled. I need to have offline help
available......what do I need to do??

Have you installed MSDN that came with Visual Studio 2005? That should have showed up as part of the installation proccess when
you first installed Visual Studio 2005.

Yes I did and it shows up in the start menu as Microsoft Developer Network
with a branch of MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005.

I have the Standard Edition too. And when I click on the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Documentation" from the Start Menu, I
get the full help system. I can only guess that you missed that somehow during the inital installation of VS2005. It may be
that you will need to re-install VS2005. Not the best solution, but, it is possible that you selected a Custom Install, instead
of the Full Installation and that is where you missed the documentation. Sorry I cannot provide you with more ideas. Hopefully,
someone else will respond and you will be able to avoid having to do a complete reinstall.

I have the exact same issue as Paul has described. I received VS2005
Standard on 2 CD's at a Microsoft "Ready to Launch 2005" event. I installed
the documentation afterwards (completely separate install) from a MSDN
Library DVD that came in the same package. Don't know if it makes any
difference, but I also have Visual Web Developer 2005 Express installed,
along with the MSDN 2005 Express Edition. In addition, I have the .NET
Framework SDK's for 1.1 and 2.0 installed.

The only difference between your setup (as far as 2005 products are concerned) and mine are, I do not
have Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition installed. I too got my Standard Edition from one of the
Launch Events (Dallas). I cannot imagine what can be causing you and Paul to have such problems with
having the proper Help working for you. As I said before, mine works fine. Even in the two Express Editions
I have installed ( VB & C#). Maybe it is the order in which you installed things. Short of a re-install like I
mentioned to Paul, I don't know what else to suggest. You might try posting on one of the MSDN newsgroups and see if you can
find some answers there.

I still haven't gotten the thing to work. Probably does have to do with
install order. I'll probably have to re-install if I want the Combined Help
Collection Manager to work.

Ok, I uninstalled Visual Web Developer Express, MSDN Library for VS2005,
Microsoft Device Emulator, Microsoft Document Explorer 2005, Microsoft Visual
J# 2.0 Redistributable Package, and Visual Studio 2005. I also uninstalled
PocketPC 2003 SDK, eMbedded C++, and Windows CE Platform Manager (not sure on
all the names), which I had used with VWD Express to test mobile stuff. I
figured I didn't need those since VS2005 Standard has the Device Emulator
built-in.

Afterwards, I re-installed Visual Studio 2005 Standard and then the MSDN
Library. The Combined Help Collection Manager still doesn't list any
collections available.

Also, I was having another problem that I hoped re-installing would fix, but
it hasn't. If I start an emulator, such as the Pocket PC 2003 SE Emulator,
and then cradle it via the Device Emulator Manager, ActiveSync won't
recognize it (I have ActiveSync 4.1, so that shouldn't be the problem). I
was basically following along a tutorial I found on Microsoft's site. Any
thoughts on either problem?
