MSDN for VS 6 tries to update VS2003

I can't be sure I've even opened MSDN for Visual Studio 6 on this build of my
development PC since installing it but I did open it tonight. I looked up a
couple of items with no problem and then, for some reason, about half of the
items I try to open from the index won't open but, instead, open the
installer Visual Studio .Net 2003 and tries to update Visual Studio .Net
2003. The installer prompts me for the Visual Studio .Net 2003 installation
disk.

While I have the disk and could put it in, what would happen if I was on the
road? Why would opening articles in CHM based MSDN associated with Visual
Studio 6 try to update Visual Studio .Net 2003 that uses a totally different
format for MSDN?

Hi Dale,

As far as I know, MSDN for Visual Studio 2003 will Overlay MSDN for Visual
Studio 6. For this reason, after you have installed VS 2003 on your
machine, the default application to load MSDN articles is MSDN for Visual
Studio 2003. Please insert your VS 2003 disk to install MSDN for VS 2003.
After that, the articles related to VS 6 will be displayed in MSDN for
Visual studio 2003.

If there is anything unclear, please feel free to reply me. I'm very glad
to work with you.

Have a great day.
Best regards,
Wen Yuan

No. I think this is incorrect. VS 6 used the MSDN help version that was not updated after October
2001. All subsequent VS products have used a newer form of MDSN help library, and both should
co-exist. However, there must be some link in the older MSDN that still triggers an install if the
new MSDN wasn't completely installed on the drive.
