Cannot start VS IDE.

I'm a beginner in vb.net programming. My problem is that when I installed VS.NET, i get a message 'Help is updating to reflect your recent changes'. After about a min, it gives me prompt saying that Windows has encountered an error and whether i'd like to send an error report. The IDE then restarts. When i checked the details of the error, it said that the error is with devenv.exe and mod hxds.dll.
I tried reinstalling several times but the same thing happens. Can somebody please help me.

Max, it is hard to tell what the problem might be. I suggest that you call
the Microsoft support phone number. Because this is a installation problem,
you should not be charged for the call. The number in the US is (800)
936-5800.
